Everyone at Gsell would like to offer you their heartfelt congratulations on your 20 years of service and thank you for your excellent teamwork. Peter, we wish you all the best and hope you continue enjoying your work. We took the opportunity to ask Peter a few questions about his work.

Peter Gfeller, Production Medical

You've been working at Gsell for a long time. Can you remember your first day at Gsell?
From the very first day, I was on a first-name basis with René Gsell, the owner, and the entire team, which impressed me. That was unusual. I also remember my first coffee break at Gsell, at that time there was no coffee machine. One person made coffee for the entire staff and the team sat down for a short «chat». I really appreciated the familiar, collegial, open and uncomplicated atmosphere, then as well as now.

What has changed at Gsell compared to the past? In your job role as a technician?
A lot has happened in machine manufacturing in the last few years. The Gsell company has grown and a new building with modern machinery has been built. In the beginning, I almost got lost in the new space. In addition, the new regulations require more documentation than before. My tasks definitely include more paperwork.

What do you like most about your job?
I really appreciate working independently. From programming and setup to final production - I can plan and realize all the necessarily production steps on my own. I am currently milling a series of polyethylene knee implants. This independence gives me a certain degree of flexibility and freedom to organize my work schedule. This brings me a great work-life balance.

When you think about Gsell (as employer), what's the first thing that comes in your mind?
The company or the «Gsell family» is very social and cares about its employees. Despite the growth of the company and the fact that we now have almost 100 employees, there are still spectacular corporate events like circus visits including gala dinners. In the past, there were even two-day trips - one special experience was a helicopter flight. In this family-owned company, respect is very important. A «thank you» is often given.

Are there conflicts in your work? How do you manage them?
At the moment, I don't have any specific things in mind. If something doesn't run smoothly, I still get great support from my supervisor André Schuler. In this way, conflicts are quickly resolved. The employer also supports the employees in case of private or health problems and and gives us the necessary assistance.

What is your favorite highlight in the last 20 years?
As already mentioned, an absolute highlight in the 20 years was definitely the helicopter flight. But also the new building - we had much more space and therefore more capacity for production. Another experience was a customer visit in Paris, where I joined René Gsell. This is really not common everywhere.

And what about your future plans?
I'm retiring in six years. Until then, I look forward to continuing to give my commitment at Gsell and always keeping up to date with new machines. Maybe I'll stay a bit longer after my retirement or help out from time to time when there are shortages.
