We initiated the concept phase in collaboration with our customer. To take every design and functional requirement into account, we created 3D models, drawings and 3D-printed prototypes.
The bone clamp was produced as a two-part construction, with both jaws designed to be disassembled, enabling thorough cleaning and eliminating fixed joints. This design allows for safe and efficient reprocessing in everyday surgical practice. Molding tools were manufactured for the production of Carbon Fiber PEEK laminates. Final processing involved CNC machining, assembling and a high-quality finish using our medical pad printing process.
Bone clamp – from metal to CF/PEEK
The bone clamp, made of carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK, meets all functional and hygienic requirements. This new radiolucent instrument does not need to be moved or removed during intraoperative imaging.
Technical highlights
- Radiolucency – No metallic components, full visibility in surgical images
- Biocompatibility – Gsell's proprietary carbon materials, tested in accordance with ISO 10993
- Autoclavability – Suitable for repeated hot steam sterilization
- Weight reduction – High strength at low weight
- Material-appropriate design – Selection of suitable PEEK materials with tailored fiber content and part-specific fiber orientation to maintain strength and functionality comparable to metal
